CIDON, winner of the interior design and equipment competition for the Parador de Cuenca

CIDON Interior Design & Contract has been officially awarded the interior renovation and FF&E project for the historic Parador de Cuenca, located in the former San Pablo Convent, an exceptional site facing the Hanging Houses and adjacent to the San Pablo Bridge, nestled in the spectacular Hoz del Huécar gorge.

The project involves work on 63 guest rooms and the common areas of the Parador, featuring a tailored interior design approach that reinterprets the building’s monastic character through a contemporary and functional lens. This award reinforces CIDON’s position as a strategic partner of Paradores de Turismo de España, joining other significant projects this year, such as the Parador de Sigüenza.

A Dialogue Between History, Sobriety, and Timeless Design

The new interior design draws inspiration from the convent’s original architecture, preserving its historical essence while embracing a modern design language. The project features a sober and elegant aesthetic, using noble materials such as natural wood, stone, and textiles in neutral and earthy tones—harmonizing with the local landscape and cultural memory of Cuenca.

Common areas—such as the glass-enclosed cloister, the cafeteria housed in the former chapel, and the outdoor pool with views over the Huécar canyon—are envisioned as contemplative, sensory experiences. Special care is given to architectural lighting and minimalist furniture that enhances the serenity of each space.

The guest rooms have been designed as serene retreats, creating a sense of peace that reflects the monumental identity of the building while offering modern comfort. Natural textures, soft color palettes, and understated furnishings provide a restful ambiance in harmony with the building’s unique character.

With this new award, CIDON reinforces its status as a national benchmark in interior design and FF&E for hotels with strong architectural and cultural identity. Its long-standing partnership with Paradores includes notable projects such as Molina de Aragón, La Granja, Jaén, Mazagón, Puebla de Sanabria, Santo Estevo, Oropesa, and Lérida.

Over nearly 25 years of collaboration, CIDON has consistently shown how emotional design and rigorous execution can elevate heritage buildings into unique destinations.
