From CIDON Interior Design & Contract, they bring us closer to the design trends for hotel lobbies in this 2024. These are demands in design, materials, and experiences that have been observed in renovation projects of renowned hotel chains around the world.
On this occasion, we chat with Alba Villa Garrido, an architect at CIDON, to consult her about these trends that she has been able to observe in the renovation projects of CIDON Interior Design & Contract's clients.
We can highlight a change in the functionality of this common space. Lobbies today are not simply understood as an exclusive area for guests to check in, but as one of the most important areas in a hotel, as it is the space that receives and creates the first impression upon arrival. It is a new space that functions as a lively meeting point, where it is important to convey an image of comfortable and spontaneous stay that manages to communicate the essence of the hotel at first contact.
The main inspiration is what is intended to be communicated to the client: a lobby that adapts to the different situations of the client and the hotel. A versatile place where you can talk, wait, read or have a coffee and share a pleasant conversation with other guests, but also become a space where the hotel can offer experiences to its guests. It is important that the lobby is clear and encompassable at a glance, where all the spaces can be seen in a simple look. The design must create a welcoming space where the client can be comfortably, spend time comfortably during their stay or while waiting.
There is an increasing demand for the use of noble and natural materials, such as wood, as well as lime paints that add a touch of color and allow the strength of the material to be shown 100%. Mixing these materials with powerful design elements, both in furniture and decoration as well as in lighting, is fundamental for the space to be warm and comfortable. Achieving a balance between colors, textures, and lighting that shows the essence of the hotel is a priority in the design of a renovation. Regarding the distribution, as I mentioned earlier, the space should be clear, but attention must also be paid to the internal organization of the different areas and the equipment used. Staying innovative and efficient is paramount to achieving success in each project.
Primarily, they benefit by humanizing the space, making it habitable so that customers do not see it as a mere transit area or uncomfortable to check in upon arrival. Guests should perceive this space as interesting within the accommodation, where they can experience various events or presentations. These actions make their stay a unique memory within the overall experience.
A first impression must be created that brings strength and consistency to the interior design project. This is achieved through powerful furniture, plenty of light and movement, and ensuring communication among the various common areas so that guests feel comfortable. The final result should be a direct connection with the hotel's aesthetics through this first welcoming stay.
